Aberdeen Celebrates Fall + 9/11 Dedication

September 10, 2016 – Aberdeen Day

Once again Aberdeen Day goes way beyond any of the other town days because of the hard work of Mayor Fred Tagliarini and the township committee.

Aberdeen is a progressive town and they know how to promote their events.  Anyone driving around the area must have seen the huge banners announcing Aberdeen Day.  They are smart and progressive and cooperate and encourage local businesses like DeMarco’s Catering & Gourmet Deli.

Now my family has been a DeMarco’s customer for over 40 years now and watched Gene DeMarco grow up and take over the business from his dad Lou.   DeMarco’s is a family business with Gene running the operation and his brother Robert, a gifted baker who makes the most amazing artisan breads in our area.

DeMarco’s Customer Appreciation Day

DeMarco’s goes way beyond any other customer appreciation day in the area.  Serving thousands of sliders, hot dogs and other great treats it becomes my first stop every Aberdeen Day. DeMarco’s is in the Bed, Bath and Beyond/Stop and Shop shopping plaza off Rt. 34 in Aberdeen.

Hundreds of hungry attendees were able to enjoy great food, music and even get a chance to say hello to Gene and his crew.  I am a true believer that businesses that are offer the best products and are so committed to their customers are the ones that deserve our business.

If you haven’t been to DeMarco’s you must. Their fresh Artisan breads are the best in Monmouth County. Their Italian specialty items are wonderful and their hero sandwiches (subs) with fresh Boar’s Head meats and cheeses on their freshly baked bread it truly worth the trip.  I love their #9 sandwich, find out why on your next visit to DeMarco’s.

Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming

In their plaza, I had an opportunity to also visit Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming a very cool and colorful store. They has so many treats and fun stuff for your dogs.  Check them out you will find something there for your best little friend for sure.

I never even realized that The Little Gym existed, maybe because I don’t have any young children.  But speaking to the manager and having a peek into their facility, it looked like the children were having a lot of fun.  The children were getting the much-needed exercise that is so important today.

Livoti’s

Now from DeMarco’s a brief stop at Livoti’s in the Aberdeen Town Square Shopping Center.  In the beginning Livoti’s used to pull out all the stops when they started their appreciation day celebration.  Unfortunately each year they cut back quite a bit. This year they ran out of hot food early in the day.  I was able to grab a couple of bags of potato chips and a cookie.

Aberdeen Day Fair

Finally a trip to the Matawan Regional High School where their field was full of tents and attendees.  Many of the exhibitors there were local businesses and a number of charities.  But that is not all…as you can see they had a petting zoo, shows for the entire family and rides and other attractions for the children.  It was so hot that day that I couldn’t stay too long. I did have an opportunity to meet some of the vendors and business owners and invite them to join our groups on Facebook and visit our website.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my wonderful hair stylist (barber) Carissa and her mom Patty who own a great salon Cutting Edge Hair Studio at 1208 Rt. 34, Aberdeen…The same shopping plaza (Aberdeen Pavilion) as my wife’s travel agency, Travel Pavilion.

Visit both Cutting Edge for a haircut or hair styling. Then visit my wife’s agency Travel Pavilion and book your next vacation or cruise.  I have created a beautiful travel site for Travel Pavilion with loads of travel articles, photos and some very cool videos.  Check it out even if you aren’t planning a trip right now.

Now if this wasn’t enough to fill your day, there was more.  For the second year in a row Aberdeen offered free circus performances.  The New Jersey Circus Center at the Matawan-Aberdeen Middle School on Matawan Avenue.  Unfortunately there was so much going on in Aberdeen, I simply couldn’t cover it all.

There is a nice article in the Matawan Patch that offers even more details about this wonderful day.

 Aberdeen 9/11 Dedication – Sept. 11, 2016

9-11 Dedication Ceremony • Aberdeen, New Jersey 2016 from lenrapp on Vimeo.

Mayor Fred Tagliarini
Mayor Fred Tagliarini

Mayor Fred Tagliarinio invited me to a special and solemn dedication of an artifact, a portion of one of the original steel girders that was in the World Trade Center.  These remains from the World Trade Center have found their way into many museums, towns and cities across our country as a way for all of us to remember that horrific day.

Our video will give you a sense of the emotion felt at this dedication ceremony.  Mayor Tagliarini recounts his story about their ride to pick up this artifact.  You can hear the emotion in his voice in the video, he explained it was a very solemn trip driving it back home.  Others in the video share some of their stories as well.

I have visited the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York City and I would urge all that read this article or view my videos and to take the trip into the city.  You can read my complete article with over 100 beautiful photos on this site.
